Breaking: Former Maverick suggests wild move for Dallas to form 'nasty' big three

The Dallas Mavericks’ 2023-24 season officially ended a few days ago after their Game 5 loss to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals. Now, it’s back to the drawing board.

Dallas exceeded almost everyone’s expectations last season, with midseason trades propelling them to the NBA Finals. They completely revamped the team at the trade deadline, and now Nico Harrison must figure out how to position the team for another successful run this season.

The Mavericks have only two free agents on their roster: Markieff Morris and Derrick Jones Jr. Jones Jr. has already expressed his desire to return. He became a key player for the Mavs as the season progressed. This summer, Dallas might aim high by pursuing one of the best wings in the NBA.

Raymond Felton suggests that Mavericks should pursue Paul George

On former Mavericks guards Theo Pinson and Raymond Felton’s new show, “To the Baha,” Felton suggested that the Mavs pursue former LA Clippers forward Paul George.

“[The Sixers are] trying to do three guys, three All-Stars in Philly, so why not try to do a three [on the Mavs],” Felton said. “If you could bring a PG (Paul George) with them two (Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving), put PG at the three or the four.”

Pinson described the prospect of George joining the Mavs as “nasty,” highlighting that this move would elevate the Mavs to the top and make them immediate favorites to win the Finals next year.

Dallas needs a reliable third scorer, and George would fit that role perfectly. Last season with the Clippers, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three-point range.

George played 74 games last season, the most he’s ever played for the Clippers. His addition to Dallas would create an unbelievable big three with Doncic and Irving. George has a player option this summer, so the likely way Dallas could acquire him is if he opts into his deal and the Clippers trade him to the Mavs or through a sign-and-trade.

Acquiring George would be expensive, but it could be the move that propels the Mavs to the next level.

A trio of George, Doncic, and Irving, surrounded by elite role players, could be the recipe for a championship next season. George would provide much-needed shooting and shot creation, making it difficult for teams to defend Dallas when George, Irving, and Doncic share the floor.

For all the latest updates on the Dallas Mavericks this offseason, stay tuned.
