Mavericks look to get Bronny James in 2024 NBA Draft
There have been recent reports about LeBron James’s son, Bronny, potentially being selected by the Mavericks in the NBA Draft.
The first report came from NBA insider Marc Stein last weekend, indicating that the Mavericks “would have interest” in drafting Bronny.
NBA Draft analyst Jonathan Givony added more details, mentioning Rich Paul, LeBron James’s agent. Paul noted that Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison has a personal connection with LeBron.
Harrison’s connections are strong, especially with the James family.
“If the Lakers don’t pick (Bronny) at 55, Dallas would take him at 58 and offer him a guaranteed deal,” Paul said.
The idea of James playing in the NBA after limited playing time in his freshman year at USC has sparked controversy on sports talk shows. Drafting him would be a bold move for any team.
Rumors of Dallas drafting Bronny James have been circulating since May, seen as an attempt to attract LeBron to play alongside his son.
A big three of Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and LeBron could be unprecedented in the league. LeBron has hinted at rejoining Irving, once praising him as a naturally gifted basketball player, and has previously called Doncic his “favorite player.”
LeBron even compared himself to Doncic a few years ago, saying, “The way he plays the game reminds me of the way I play the game.”
Doncic grew up idolizing LeBron, and mutual admiration has been evident since they both entered the NBA.
“I was able to inspire a kid that wasn’t even in America.”
There is clear admiration among these three future Hall of Fame players. While LeBron’s career is nearing its end, the chemistry in Dallas would be exceptional if they managed to secure what could be the greatest free agency signing in team history through a sign-and-trade with the Los Angeles Lakers.
