After 13 years with the Golden State Warriors, All-Star shooter Klay Thompson is set to join the Dallas Mavericks later this year. Ahead of his debut, the Splash Brother has shared an exciting message for his fans following his official signing with the Mavericks.

Recently, the Mavericks acquired the five-time All-Star in a groundbreaking six-team sign-and-trade deal, the first of its kind in NBA history.

As part of the agreement, Thompson signed a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks. The Golden State Warriors, with whom Thompson spent the first 13 years of his career, will receive Buddy Hield from the Charlotte Hornets as part of the deal. The other teams involved in the transaction are the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves.

During his tenure with the Warriors, Thompson was a key member of four championship teams and made five All-Star teams. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

The Mavericks are hoping Thompson’s arrival, along with the continued development of Luka Doncic, will help them take the next step after reaching the NBA Finals last season. For the Warriors, the trade represents a changing of the guard as they look to retool around Stephen Curry with new pieces like Hield.

Thompson brings an impressive NBA resume to the Mavericks. Over 13 seasons, he has averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, while shooting an elite 41% from three-point range. His free throw efficiency, making 92% of his attempts last season, and his record-setting performance against the Chicago Bulls in 2018 further solidify his credentials as a valuable addition to Dallas’ roster.

How Thompson will fit into the backcourt alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving remains to be seen. However, if his past 13 years in the league are any indication, the Splash Brother should integrate well with the defending Western Conference champions.
