The first time Patrick Kane has spoken to the media since agreeing to a new, one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings was on Monday.
Approximately one-third of the way into the season, the 35-year-old signed with Detroit after recuperating from hip surgery. He was under contract for $2.75 million for a year.
After just 50 games, he scored 20 goals and added 27 assists, making a quick impact on the Wings’ success.
“Having a full training camp and showing up fit and well will be important for the team and for me individually. “I’m excited to build on our achievements from the previous year,” Kane remarked.
As the new season approaches and following the previous one, Kane expressed his happiness and contentment with his physical appearance.
“Feeling like it’s all coming together is something I’ve been aiming for during the first year of the process and after surgery. I’m feeling good and fresh, and my goal is to elevate my performance,” he said.
He’s eager for the Red Wings to return to the playoffs, especially after narrowly missing out last season.
“I think Little Caesars Arena is an amazing place to play. I can’t even imagine what it would be like during the playoffs. I’m really looking forward to that,” Kane said.
Kane also commented on the team adding Vladimir Tarasenko in the offseason, saying his presence will be significant for the team.
He mentioned that Tarasenko’s wife spoke with his wife, and GM Steve Yzerman also consulted him about bringing Tarasenko onto the team.
