Even though Sandro Mamukelashvili no longer plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, he remains a valuable asset for any NBA team. The San Antonio Spurs recognized this and recently signed him to a new deal.
Mamukelashvili, a Georgian-American professional basketball player, was drafted 54th overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 2021 NBA Draft. He then joined the Bucks, where he played from 2021 to 2023.
While with the Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Mamukelashvili also played for their G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd. In the 2023 NBA G League Next Up Game, he demonstrated his talent and earned a spot on the Next Up Game roster.
In 2023, Mamukelashvili signed with the San Antonio Spurs and now plays as a center/power forward. He has continued to develop his game, showing versatility as a big man who can score, rebound, and facilitate.
Last season, the former Bucks forward showed promise, producing solid numbers with increased playing time towards the end of the year. His addition brings the Spurs’ regular season roster to 14 players, just one short of the maximum limit.
Former Milwaukee Bucks Forward Sandro Mamukelashvili Receives One-Year Deal From San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs gave Mamukelashvili a new contract extension because of his strong performance in the final stretch of the previous campaign. Adrian Wojnarowski, an ESPN insider, tweeted on his official X account to corroborate this story.
“Sources tell ESPN that free agent forward Sandro Mamukelashvili has reached an agreement to rejoin the San Antonio Spurs for a one-year contract worth $2.2 million. Woj tweeted, “Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports and George Roussakis have verified the deal.
The Georgian-American forward played for Milwaukee for two seasons prior to establishing himself as a valuable member of the San Antonio team. Mamukelasvili averaged 3.2 points, 34% from beyond the arc, and 2.1 rebounds throughout that time.
The Spurs will have more opportunity to showcase the skills of the former Bucks forward now that he is signed for a second season, especially with All-Star point guard Chris Paul leading the team’s offensive attack. Mamukelashvili should prosper much more under Victor Wembanyama’s leadership.
