Caitlin Clark, a rookie guard with the Indiana Fever, is already regarded as one of the best shooters in the WNBA outside the arc. Fans couldn’t have been more excited to watch her display her long-range shooting prowess in the WNBA Three-Point Contest of 2024. But Caitlin Clark will not be taking part in this year’s WNBA All-Star Weekend three-point competition.

Many fans assumed Clark would be a guaranteed participant in this year’s event. However, when the WNBA released its Three-Point Contest lineup and Skills Challenge participants on Wednesday night, her name was notably absent.

Surprisingly, guard Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces and sniper Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty did not make the list.

Caitlin Clark not on the list of 3-point participants

The five contestants for the Three-Point Contest were revealed by the WNBA on Wednesday. The lineup consists of the Washington Mystics’ Stefanie Dolson (48.5% shooting percentage), the Atlanta Dream’s Allisha Gray (36%), the New York Liberty’s Jonquel Jones (39.6%), the Connecticut Sun’s Marina Mabrey (34.8%), and the Minnesota Lynx’s Kayla McBride (42.7%).

It’s possible that Caitlin Clark made the same decision as Ionescu and Plum to not compete.

This is not what WNBA fans wanted to see for this year’s 3-point challenge, regardless of whether it was a decision made by the WNBA or one in which Clark had a voice.

It’s shocking if the league excluded Clark on its own, considering that she wasn’t selected for Team USA’s Olympic roster to begin with. It makes sense that Clark would want to take a break before this Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game, given that she opted out herself.

In addition to the customary 3-point contest and skills competition, the WNBA All-Star Weekend will include a 3×3 tournament for the first time ever. The competition is scheduled to begin on Friday at 6 p.m. MST and will be broadcast on ESPN. Everything will take place in the Footprint Center.

Caitlin Clark constantly breaking WNBA Records

Caitlin Clark recently made headlines by breaking the WNBA single-game record for assists with a career-high 19 assists in a game where the Fever lost 101-93 to the Dallas Wings. She also scored 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, further solidifying her position as the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year.

Previously, the record for assists in a single game was held by Courtney Vandersloot with 18 assists, set in 2020. Clark not only surpassed this mark but also broke Tina Penicheiro’s 1998 rookie assist record of 16 assists. Additionally, Clark set the Fever’s single-season franchise assist record with 202 assists in just 26 games. The current WNBA single-season record stands at 316 assists, held by Alyssa Thomas.

Clark’s achievements extend beyond assists. She became the quickest WNBA player to reach 400 points and 200 assists, accomplishing this milestone in just 26 games, breaking Sue Bird’s previous record of 33 games.

Despite not participating in the 3-point contest during the All-Star events, Clark remains part of the Team WNBA roster and will compete in the All-Star Game against Team USA before the WNBA takes a break for the 2024 Olympics.
