Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, seen with Nick Saban (Credit: Gary Cosby Jr.-USA TODAY Sports), has often received invaluable advice from Saban, making it hard to pinpoint the most significant piece.
During an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up,” Milroe, coached by Saban for three seasons, shared what he considers the most crucial advice: “trust the process.” Milroe emphasized that every journey is unique, especially for someone like him, who moved from Texas to Alabama. He noted the importance of perseverance in achieving goals despite adversity, self-doubt, and tough circumstances. Saban’s consistent encouragement to strive for excellence and approach each day with focus was vital.
Milroe’s journey with the Crimson Tide exemplifies this mindset. After spending two seasons behind Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, Milroe faced challenges, including being benched ahead of Alabama’s Week 3 game against USF, only to become the full-time starter the following week. He led the team to an SEC Championship victory over Georgia and into the College Football Playoff.
Milroe’s dedication was tested again when Saban announced his retirement in January. Instead of transferring, Milroe stayed committed to Alabama under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. He now enters the season as one of the top quarterbacks in the SEC.
