The Tigers have acquired Ricky Vanasco from the Dodgers
With Carson Kelly’s trade to Texas on Sunday, the Detroit Tigers have officially added a player to their 40-man roster. Right-hand reliever Ricky Vanasco, 25, was assigned to Triple-A Toledo by the Tigers after being acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday for monetary considerations.
Vanasco was once considered a top prospect in the Rangers organization; however, he lost all of 2021 due to Tommy John surgery, had knee surgery in 2023, and underwent surgery in 2020. He has demonstrated promise despite these setbacks, sporting a 2.4% strikeout rate and a 3.47 ERA in Triple-A this season. But since the surgery, he has struggled with command, as shown by his 19% walk rate in Triple-A this season.
The Tigers believe that by adding Vanasco, they can help him improve his command problems and realize his full potential while he plays for Triple-A Toledo.
