The Atlanta Braves are set to receive a boost to their outfield this week. Manager Brian Snitker announced on Monday that Michael Harris II is expected to be activated on Wednesday when he becomes eligible to come off the 60-day injured list. Harris, who has been recovering from a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, will immediately resume his role as Atlanta’s starting center fielder.
Snitker expressed confidence in Harris’s readiness, noting that the young outfielder has “checked all the boxes” in his recovery. During a rehab stint with Triple-A Gwinnett, Harris impressed by going 10-for-23 with a home run and two RBIs over six games.
Before his injury, Harris was considered one of Snitker’s options for the leadoff spot in the lineup. However, with the addition of Jorge Soler to the roster, Snitker indicated that Harris will likely bat in the middle of the order upon his return. Snitker praised Soler’s recent performance and suggested that if Soler continues his strong play, he could remain in the leadoff position.
During Monday’s game, a defensive miscue occurred when Ramón Laureano overran a fly ball in shallow center field, leading to a two-base error. Harris’s return is expected to bolster the Braves’ defense and add depth to their lineup as they continue their push through the season.
