**Florida Panthers Sign Defenseman Adam Boqvist to One-Year Deal**
On July 9, 2024, the Florida Panthers announced the signing of 23-year-old defenseman Adam Boqvist to a one-year contract. Boqvist joins the Panthers after spending the 2023-24 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he recorded 10 points (1 goal, 9 assists) in 35 games. The Swedish blueliner has played five NHL seasons, splitting time between the Blue Jackets (2021-22 to 2023-24) and the Chicago Blackhawks (2019-20 to 2020-21). Over the course of his NHL career, Boqvist has amassed 85 points (23 goals, 62 assists) in 209 games.
Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 189 pounds, Boqvist is a native of Falun, Sweden. Before making his mark in the NHL, he was a standout player in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the London Knights during the 2018-19 season. That year, he posted 60 points (20 goals, 40 assists) in 54 games, leading his team in assists and earning a spot on the OHL Second All-Star Team. His impressive play in junior hockey set the stage for his NHL debut.
Before coming to North America, Boqvist also gained experience in Sweden’s top league, skating in 15 games with Byrnas IF in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) during the 2017-18 season. In addition, he contributed 40 points (18 goals, 22 assists) over 43 games with Byrnas’ junior team from 2016 to 2018. These performances made him a top prospect, and he was selected eighth overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft.
On the international stage, Boqvist has also represented Sweden with distinction. At the 2018 IIHF U18 World Championship, he helped Sweden secure a bronze medal while leading all defensemen in goals (3) and points (7) and earning the Best Defenseman award. Additionally, he earned another bronze medal at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, where he led the tournament with seven assists (1 goal, 7 assists) in five games.
This signing marks an exciting addition for the Panthers, as Boqvist’s offensive prowess and defensive reliability will provide a boost to the team’s blue line. His younger brother, Jesper Boqvist, also recently joined the Panthers on a one-year deal, further strengthening the family ties within the organization.
The Panthers are coming off a Stanley Cup championship season and are looking to build on that success. Fans can become part of the Panthers’ exciting journey by purchasing 2024-25 Territory Memberships, which include exclusive benefits, savings, and access to special events as a season ticket holder.
With Adam Boqvist now in the fold, the Florida Panthers are adding depth and skill to their roster as they prepare for another competitive NHL season.
