REPORT: Warriors To Land Another Top Experienced Star in Blockbuster Trade

Have the Miami Heat given up on winning a championship during the Jimmy Butler era? That’s a question many fans are asking after this offseason. While other Eastern Conference teams have significantly improved, the Heat have remained largely stagnant, opting to “run it back” despite a first-round playoff exit last season. There are also growing concerns about Butler’s future. Reports from earlier this summer suggested he was seeking a contract extension, but the Heat were hesitant to offer one. Given Butler’s age—he’s now 35—and his injury history, this reluctance is understandable. He has only played more than 70 games in a season twice, both times when he was with the Chicago Bulls. Additionally, he missed the entire playoff series last season as the Heat fell 4-1 to the Boston Celtics.

Butler has certainly overachieved in his time with the Heat, leading them to two NBA Finals. But the question is whether the franchise can continue to rely on him as he approaches his late 30s. Despite these concerns, there is reportedly still significant interest in Butler around the league. One team rumored to be monitoring his situation is the Golden State Warriors.

Celtics could sign old Jimmy Butler enemy?

The Warriors face their own dilemma, with time running out to capitalize on the remaining years of Steph Curry’s prime. Klay Thompson’s departure this summer only adds to the urgency. Could this lead to the Warriors making a move for Butler in the future? Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey suggested a potential trade scenario in his article “Jimmy Butler Trade Packages: Ideas for Lakers, Warriors and More.” In this proposal, the Warriors would acquire Butler and Josh Richardson in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, Gary Payton II, a 2025 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and a 2028 first-round pick swap.

This trade would be the ultimate “win-now” move for the Warriors, sacrificing young talent like Kuminga and future picks to take another championship run with Curry leading the team. However, the Warriors were reportedly unwilling to include Kuminga in trade talks with the Los Angeles Clippers for Paul George earlier in the summer. Could a rough start to the season change their stance?

Meanwhile, there is also speculation about the Los Angeles Lakers potentially landing Butler in a proposed trade with the Heat, showing that multiple teams may be keeping a close eye on his availability.
