After a strong season and being left out of the College Football Playoff, the FSU football program is struggling as they begin 2024.

The era of quarterback Jordan Travis is over, and now the Seminoles have former five-star recruit DJ Uiagalelei at the helm. Unfortunately, Uiagalelei’s performance has been underwhelming, potentially contributing to Florida State’s difficulties this season.

Uiagalelei joined Florida State after a strong season with the Oregon State Beavers. Despite his previous success and familiarity with the style of play the Seminoles favor, he has struggled to deliver results for FSU, amassing only 666 yards and one touchdown in three games.

Historically, Florida State has boasted a high-powered offense, but in 2024, they’ve managed just 46 points over three games. For comparison, the Seminoles scored 45 points in their 2023 opener against LSU’s defense.

Many FSU fans are advocating for freshman backup quarterback Brock Glenn to take over as the starter, with some even sporting ‘Start Brock Glenn’ pins around campus and at recent games, including the loss to Memphis. Glenn, who played for Florida State last season and started against Georgia in a tough defeat, might be considered for the starting role if Uiagalelei’s struggles continue, or possibly should have been the starter all along.

FSU Football Continues to Run DJ Uiagalelei Out as Starting Quarterback

The Seminoles are experiencing one of their worst starts to a season in history, putting FSU football Head Coach Mike Norvell in a precarious position.

Norvell decided to start transfer DJ Uiagalelei over freshman Brock Glenn, who was a fan favorite after starting in the bowl game last season. Since this decision, Uiagalelei and the Seminoles have been on a severe decline, suffering losses to the Boston College Eagles and the Memphis Tigers. Despite Norvell’s previous insistence that the team had more to offer than just quarterback Jordan Travis, the current struggles are challenging that narrative.

Even after a costly defeat to Memphis, where the Seminoles paid $1.4 million for the Tigers to visit, Uiagalelei remains the starting quarterback. Seminoles fans are growing frustrated with Uiagalelei’s performances and are now calling for Glenn to be given a chance. Although Glenn is largely untested, many fans believe he deserves an opportunity after the team’s dismal 0-3 start.
