General manager Chris Young said on Thursday that Texas shortstop Corey Seager would have surgery to repair a sports hernia, ending his Rangers career.
Seager is due for surgery on Friday after seeing physicians in Arizona earlier this week. In the last year, Seager has had two sports hernia operations; this one will be performed on the opposite side.
Young stated that in order for Seager to fully heal, have a successful offseason, and be prepared for spring training, it was a difficult decision that was required at this stage in the season. Right hip soreness that had been bothering Seager for almost a month put him on the 10-day disabled list on September 4.
The World Series MVP, Kyle Seager, underwent surgery in January to repair a sports hernia, which kept him out of almost all of spring training. He was hoping to make a comeback this season, but realized he needed a full offseason to get ready for 2025.
“You can’t miss two offseasons,” stated Seager. You need to be well enough to resume your work and get back into shape. didn’t really have a preseason build-up the previous year. That is something that you must possess.
This season, in 123 games, Seager hit.278 with 30 home runs and 74 RBIs. He has 30 home runs in three seasons since signing a 10-year, $325 million contract with the Rangers. Seager had a rocky start, hitting just two home runs and eight RBIs in his first 29 games. However, from May 3 onward, he hit.296 with 27 home runs and 66 RBIs.
