Dexter Dennis, a former prospect for the Dallas Mavericks, has signed an Exhibit-10 contract with the Sacramento Kings, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac. With NBA training camps approaching, teams are signing players to Exhibit-10 deals, which allow them to retain the players’ G-League rights if they don’t make the main roster. This move gives Dennis a chance to prove himself with Sacramento, following a journey through various teams and leagues.

Dennis initially joined the Mavericks as an undrafted free agent in 2023, signing an Exhibit-10 contract with the team. His performance led to the Mavericks converting his contract to a two-way deal, but his stint with the team was cut short when he was waived in December to make room for Brandon Williams, who remains with Dallas. During his time with the Mavericks, Dennis appeared in four NBA games, most notably scoring 18 points in a blowout loss to the Houston Rockets.

Following his release from the Mavericks, Dennis continued his career in the G-League. He played for the Texas Legends, Dallas’ G-League affiliate, before being picked up by the Cleveland Charge, the G-League team affiliated with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Dennis finished the 2023-24 season in Cleveland before being traded to Sacramento’s G-League affiliate during the offseason. His performances in the G-League have shown flashes of his potential, particularly as a defensive asset.

Dennis has a strong college basketball background, having spent four years at Wichita State before transferring to Texas A&M for his final year. Known for his defensive skills, he earned the title of American Conference Defensive Player of the Year while at Wichita State. His defensive prowess, combined with occasional offensive bursts, makes him a valuable prospect for teams looking to develop versatile players.

The Kings, who already have a strong defensive player in Keon Ellis, likely see Dennis as a potential project for the future. With his solid defensive skills and room for growth offensively, Sacramento could develop Dennis into a key rotational player. While his path to securing a permanent spot on the Kings’ roster is uncertain, this Exhibit-10 deal gives him an opportunity to make an impact during training camp and possibly earn a place in the Kings’ system through their G-League affiliate.
