The Detroit Red Wings’ goaltender duels are getting more intense as Alex Lyon and Cam Talbot shut out the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night. The Red Wings hosted their preseason game on Friday, and while most people’s attention was focused on another Detroit team—and rightfully so—the two seasoned goalies shut out the Blackhawks, further solidifying the competition for the cage going into the regular season.
In the meantime, the Detroit Tigers, who are controlled by Ilitch as well, defeated the Chicago White Sox 4-1 to secure their postseason spot. The Tigers are making their first postseason appearance since 2014. After August 11th, the unlikely 31-11 record was completed with the win. Before their incredible comeback, the Tigers were just eight games below.500 and ten games out of the final wild-card berth on August 10. The Tigers are one of only two MLB teams in history to make it to the postseason after finishing at least that far below.500 after 115 games, as the Detroit Free Press noted.
It took some time for Ilitch to realize that our winnings weren’t the result of chance or accident. “I don’t remember the exact game,” he remarked. That was a high-level implementation of a plan. As we assess the situation from an organizational perspective, you could eventually see that everything were coming together and functioning as they should.”
Hinch said of Ilitch’s beer shower, “Nobody is safe in there, not even the owner.” “He is a huge supporter of my, our office, and our goal of winning. It’s absolutely great to see our guys so at ease, or innocent, that they let him join in the festivities.”
The Red Wings have many veteran players, but the development and output of the 26-year-old and younger core will be crucial in determining the team’s future and whether it can make the next step. I recently discussed some similarities between the Tigers and Red Wings, many of which are centered around organizational youth.
It’s an amazing time to be a Detroit sports fan with the way the Lions have played over the last few years, the rise of this young Tigers team, and the Detroit Red Wings’ ability to make the playoffs. Taking in everything that Detroit has to offer is a lot of fun at this time.
Now onto the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 preseason victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
It won’t be considered his first official goal, but rookie Vladimir Tarasenko scored his first goal while wearing a Red Wings shirt. In addition, the Red Wings easily defeated the Blackhawks 2-0, and Christian Fischer managed to light the lamp. After battling in front of the net and putting a loose puck past Hawks goalie Arvid Söderblom, Fischer scored the game’s first goal.
In Detroit’s lineup, 32-year-old Tarasenko will essentially take David Perron’s place. The talented winger, who spent his season between the Stanley Cup-winning Florida Panthers and the awful Ottawa Senators, finished with 23 goals and 55 points.
Jonatan Berggren was promoted to Detroit’s second line on Friday in place of Patrick Kane to play with Tarasenko and J.T. Compher, as Kaitlyn stated in her pregame remarks. Although Kane is fit and ready to play, the Red Wings decided not to press the matter with their seasoned star winger, thus he did not start for the second straight game. Throughout the second half of Detroit’s eight-game preseason schedule, Kane, according to the Red Wings, is in excellent health and will have plenty of opportunities to hone his skills in competitive settings. Tarasenko scored on a play that Andrew Copp set up for a power play marker. Cam Talbot recorded nine saves in the game, compared to Alex Lyon’s 13.
The Detroit Red Wings’ next game is scheduled for this Saturday night at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Red Wings’ starting goalie will be Ville Husso.
