Due to a shoulder injury, Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis departed the game during Monday’s 31-12 victory over the Miami Dolphins in the first quarter.
During Tennessee’s second drive, Levis rushed for a first down and landed hard on his throwing shoulder, right. Levis was replaced by backup Mason Rudolph, who did not return to the game.
Although he doesn’t think Levis’ injury is too serious, Brian Callahan—who recently recorded his first victory as the Titans head coach—said that tests would be conducted to determine the severity of the ailment. He further mentioned that the quarterback was spotted scowling on the sideline and that Levis tried to rejoin the game but was in discomfort.
Callahan clarified that the decision to hold Levis out was influenced by the approaching bye week.
Callahan stated, “didn’t want to expose him to any further risk.” “He made every effort to get rid of it, but it was causing him a lot of discomfort in his shoulder.”
Prior to the injury, on the first drive, Levis intercepted a pass intended for DeAndre Hopkins, his sixth of the season. The throw was intercepted by Dolphins linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah, who caught it in between his knees.
Compared to his nine starts as a rookie last year, the quarterback in his second year had two more interceptions this time around. During a season in which Callahan is teaching him a new offense, he has been erratic.
On Monday, Levis completed 3 of 4 throws for 25 yards. He has four passing touchdowns and a 68.4 completion percentage this season.
Rudolph took over and guided the Titans to their first-ever victory of the season with seven scoring drives, two of which ended in touchdowns. Rudolph completed 9 of 17 throws for 85 yards in his season debut.
Callahan brushed off any speculation that Levis would not start for the Titans moving forward.
Callahan stated, “Will is our quarterback and he’s healthy.” “With the bye week in particular, it was not based on anything other than his health and protection.”
