The Philadelphia Eagles have failed to establish a pass rush this season, with only 6 total sacks in five games, tying them for 31st in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals (all 1-4). But, as the saying goes, those who wait will reap the benefits. On Tuesday, October 8, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin proposed a trade in which the Eagles would acquire Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller.
If they did, they would have to wait for the 35-year-old to serve his four-game suspension imposed by the league following the Bills’ Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Miller will not be eligible to return to the field until the team’s Week 9 game against the Miami Dolphins on November 3, just two days before the trade deadline.
“The Eagles probably shouldn’t be in the business of adding aging defenders,” Benjamin pointed out. “But they badly need a pass rush and Miller, though suspended until Week 8, was a Pro Bowler under [Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator] Vic Fangio in Denver.” Miller has been in the league for 14 years, but he only played 13 of them due to an injury that kept him out for the whole 2020 season. He’s an eight-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro, although he hasn’t received either award since 2019.
The outside linebacker had 8 sacks in 2022 and 0 in 2023. However, he had three sacks and three tackles for loss in only four games this season before being suspended. Miller’s career stats include 167 tackles for loss and 126.5 sacks. Miller is currently playing in the third season of a six-year, $120 million contract that continues until the 2027 season, when he would be 38 years old.
