Done Deal: Just In Antonio Pierce Officially Announced The Signing Of Ex-Ravens RB & Ex-Buccaneers CB

The Las Vegas Raiders are grappling with the NFL’s worst running game through 10 games, averaging just 75.2 rushing yards per game. This performance ranks last in the league and is on track to be the poorest since the Miami Dolphins’ 72.3 yards per game in 2019. Running backs Alexander Mattison and Zamir White have failed to make a consistent impact, prompting the Raiders to sign Chris Collier to their practice squad.

Collier, a former Baltimore Ravens undrafted free agent, appeared in five games for the Ravens, primarily as a kick returner. The Division II college player flew under the radar during the draft process but now gets another chance with the Raiders. Given their limited production in the return game, Collier could add value in that role. Additionally, with the team sitting at 2-8 and far from playoff contention, it’s an opportune time to test young talent like Collier in the backfield, especially since Mattison and White haven’t delivered significant results.

In addition to Collier, the Raiders also signed cornerback Keenan Isaac to the practice squad. Isaac entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023. He played two games for Tampa last season and five this season before being released. With injuries to cornerbacks Jack Jones, Jakorian Bennett, and Nate Hobbs, the Raiders are seeking depth at the position. If those players don’t recover quickly, Isaac could earn a spot on the active roster.

The Raiders’ current struggles suggest it might be time to shake things up further, including giving rookie running back Dylan Laube another chance. Laube showed promise during training camp but was sidelined after fumbling his only carry this season. With little at stake for the remainder of the year, experimenting with players like Laube could bring a spark to the offense.

However, head coach Antonio Pierce’s precarious job status complicates such decisions. Focused on immediate results, Pierce has been conservative in his game strategy, likely to avoid risks that could jeopardize his position further. If the Raiders are to prioritize player development, general manager Tom Telesco may need to intervene and advocate for increased opportunities for younger talent.
