Official Mets News: Mets Official Sign $200 Million Infielder To Boost Squad

Mets Sign Key Reliever, Eye Major Offseason Moves

The New York Mets have secured one of their bullpen pieces for another season, as reliever Sean Reid-Foley has signed a one-year deal with the team, according to MLB.com. Reid-Foley, who has been with the Mets since 2021, played a key role in their bullpen this past season. Despite health challenges in recent years, the 29-year-old had an impressive 2024, appearing in 23 games and posting a stellar 1.66 ERA with 25 strikeouts over 21 innings.

The Mets are coming off a strong season that saw them advance to the National League Championship Series (NLCS). Although they fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers, their deep playoff run has fueled ambitions for a big offseason. Reid-Foley’s return is just one piece of a broader strategy as New York looks to bolster its roster.

One of the Mets’ primary goals is landing a marquee free agent. The team is reportedly in the mix for Yankees slugger Juan Soto, a top prize in this year’s free-agent market. Mets ownership and front-office personnel recently traveled to California to meet with Soto, signaling their serious intent. Competing with several other teams, the Mets aim to make a splash by signing the power-hitting outfielder.

However, pursuing Soto may come at a cost. The Mets have already decided to part ways with Alex Ramirez and pitcher Grant Hartwig. Additionally, they face critical decisions about retaining key players. Pete Alonso, who hit 34 home runs with 88 RBIs in 2024, is a free agent this offseason. Analysts suggest Alonso’s future with the Mets could significantly influence their approach to other signings. If Alonso leaves, options include signing infielder Alex Bregman or reshuffling their infield by moving Mark Vientos to first base.

MLB analyst Mark Feinsand believes the Mets’ pursuit of Soto and Alonso’s free agency will define their offseason. “Much like the Yankees, the Mets’ pursuit of Soto could set the tone,” Feinsand said, per Sports Illustrated.

As the Mets navigate these high-stakes decisions, fans eagerly await updates on potential blockbuster moves that could shape the team’s 2025 campaign.
