Virginia Tech Football Lands Commitment from Class of 2025 Linebacker
Virginia Tech secured a significant in-state addition to its Class of 2025 recruiting efforts on Sunday, bolstering its defense with a linebacker familiar to the program. The Hokies, who hosted recruits for the Classes of 2025 and 2026 during last Thursday’s game against Boston College at Lane Stadium, continue to strengthen their recruiting presence.
Among the visiting prospects was Brendon Haygood, a Boise State running back commit whom Virginia Tech hopes to flip. However, the standout news came Sunday, when head coach Brent Pry and his staff received a commitment from three-star linebacker Brennan Johnson, whose older brother, Braylon Johnson, is already a member of the Hokies’ roster.
Brennan Johnson, ranked as the 30th-best player in Virginia for the Class of 2025, had an impressive junior year, recording 120 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, four sacks, and three forced fumbles. His stellar performance earned him the title of 2023 Virginia Class 6 Defensive Player of the Year. Johnson’s recruitment was highly contested, with offers from top programs such as Maryland, Ole Miss, Boston College, Penn State, Michigan State, Indiana, Miami, Duke, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
The June recruiting period was pivotal for Johnson, as he made an official visit to Virginia Tech. His decision brings the Hokies’ 2025 recruiting class to 17 members, including 11 players from Virginia. Johnson joins fellow linebacker commitments four-star Brett Clatterbaugh and three-star Noah Chambers.
Virginia Tech’s defensive commitments for the Class of 2025 also include safety Sheldon Robinson, defensive lineman Christian Evans, cornerback Knahlij Harrell, and edge rushers Zeke Chinwkie and Sherrod Henderson. Johnson’s commitment reflects Virginia Tech’s continued success in securing local talent and its ability to attract high-potential players to its program.
With Johnson in the fold, the Hokies remain active in their recruiting efforts, aiming to strengthen their roster further for the upcoming seasons. As the younger Johnson joins his brother Braylon in Blacksburg, the Hokies are poised to capitalize on this family connection and his defensive prowess.
