The Seattle Seahawks have added a new member to their roster by claiming safety AJ Finley off waivers from the Los Angeles Chargers. This move marks another adjustment to the Seahawks’ 53-man roster as they prepare for the remainder of the season.
Who is AJ Finley?
AJ Finley played four seasons of college football at Ole Miss, primarily as a safety. During his collegiate career, Finley amassed 244 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and a touchdown. His standout season came in 2021, when he helped Ole Miss reach the Sugar Bowl and earned a spot on the AP All-SEC second team. Following another strong performance in 2022, Finley entered the 2023 NFL Draft but was not selected.
Finley’s NFL Journey So Far
After going undrafted in 2023, Finley signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. Initially, he made the Chargers’ 53-man roster but was waived on September 23. He rejoined the team on the practice squad the following day and was promoted back to the active roster on September 30. Finley spent the remainder of the 2023 season with the Chargers and continued into the 2024 season before being waived earlier this week. In his NFL career, Finley has recorded 13 tackles and one forced fumble. He has played 370 special teams snaps and only 69 defensive snaps, showcasing his primary role as a special teams contributor.
Corresponding Roster Move
To make room for Finley, the Seahawks waived defensive lineman Myles Adams. Adams, a former Rice standout, went undrafted in 2020 and initially signed with the Carolina Panthers. He later joined the Seahawks’ practice squad and has been part of their organization since, alternating between the practice squad and active roster. Over his career, Adams has recorded 30 tackles and one sack, which he achieved during the 2023 season.
With Finley joining the Seahawks, the team aims to bolster its depth in the secondary and enhance its special teams performance. This addition also demonstrates Seattle’s ongoing commitment to fine-tuning its roster as they push through the 2024 season.
