Done Deal: Just In Mets GM Carlos Mendoza Officially Announced The Signing Of Yankees Fans Favorite Superstar To Multi-Million Deal

The New York Mets have agreed to a two-year, $34 million deal with right-hander according to multiple reports from Sunday night. This signing marks the Mets’ first significant move in what is expected to be an active offseason for the team. Montas will help fill a weakened Mets rotation, which has seen the departure of key pitchers like Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, and Jose Quintana, all of whom became free agents. The contract includes an opt-out clause after Montas’ first year with the Mets.

Montas, 31, returns to New York after a challenging stint with the Yankees in 2022 and 2023, where injuries hindered his performance. The Yankees acquired Montas at the 2022 trade deadline from the Oakland Athletics, but he was not fully healthy, and as a result, he only made eight starts for New Y

ork that season. In the following year,

Montas missed almost the entire 2023 season due to a shoulder injury that required arthroscopic surgery. He was activated just before the end of the 2023 season and made a brief bullpen appearance, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings against the Kansas City Royals in the second-to-last game of the season.

Last offseason, Montas signed a one-year, $14 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds. However, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers at the trade deadline. Over the course of the 2023 season, Montas accumulated a 4.84 ERA across 150 2/3 innings. Despite a solid showing, he chose to decline his end of a mutual option with Cincinnati for the 2025 season. Now, with the Mets, Montas hopes to regain his form and contribute to a rotation that has seen significant changes over the past year. The Mets are counting on Montas’ experience and potential to help stabilize their pitching staff as they look to compete in the upcoming season.
