The Milwaukee Brewers may face a tough and frigid winter. They had a very sad 2024 season finale, and now they have to watch Willy Adames, a top player, enter free agency with almost no chance of being re-signed. Given the dearth of skilled infielders available in free agency, Adames might get a contract worth around $200 million, even if his usual value would be in the $140 million to $160 million area.
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman recently predicted that Adames would sign a contract worth about $200 million. Heyman also noted that three teams were actively seeking Adames in trades during the 2024 season: the Atlanta Braves, the San Francisco Giants, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. “The talented shortstop will aim for at least $200 million. Among the teams pursuing trade talks were the Dodgers, Giants, and Braves,” Heyman said. “His market could benefit from his willingness to shift to third base. $180 million over seven years.
A shift to third base would be inevitable if the New York Mets were to acquire Adames, making them a plausible suitor in addition to the three teams that attempted to trade for him. The Dodgers were thought to be the front-runners to acquire the talented infielder, but it’s unlikely that Adames will join them now that Los Angeles signed Blake Snell and extended Tommy Edman.
However, this does not exclude him joining the Giants and moving to the National League West. Adames is the obvious choice to improve San Francisco’s shortstop position. In any case, Heyman’s projection of $180 million over seven years appears to be accurate. The Brewers infielder’s contract this winter will probably come very close to this amount, and it won’t be with Milwaukee.
