Auburn football secured another addition to its 2025 recruiting class as, the son of an Auburn football legend, officially committed to the Tigers. The three-star wide receiver from Southside Selma High School is also the twin brother of four-star Auburn commit Derick Smith, adding a family connection to his decision.
Erick Smith’s commitment was confirmed through posts on his personal account on X (formerly known as Twitter), despite no formal announcement. The 6-foot-6, 190-pound receiver chose Auburn over Alabama, marking a significant win for head coach Hugh Freeze. Interestingly, Derick Smith had previously flipped his commitment from Alabama to Auburn in late July, further cementing the family’s allegiance to the Tigers.
Erick’s towering frame offers Auburn a traditional red zone target, a valuable asset for the team’s receiver lineup.
During his junior season, Erick recorded an impressive 39 receptions for 1,121 yards and eight touchdowns, showcasing his potential to make an impact in Auburn’s offense. His size and skill set complement Auburn’s receiver room, adding diversity to the team’s offensive options.
While Erick is rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and is technically the lowest-ranked commit in Auburn’s current 27-man recruiting class, his potential value extends beyond rankings. He is the third receiver in the class, joining his twin brother Derick and fellow three-star commit Sam Turner. Together, they form a promising trio that adds depth to Auburn’s receiving corps for the future.
Though Erick’s commitment doesn’t significantly boost Auburn’s recruiting rankings, it reinforces the Tigers’ ability to secure talent with strong ties to the program. This development also highlights the influence of family and legacy in recruiting decisions, especially in high-profile programs like Auburn and Alabama.
As the Tigers continue building their 2025 class under Hugh Freeze’s leadership, commitments like Erick’s signal a focus on both talent and team cohesion. With his unique skill set and family connection to the program, Erick Smith is poised to become a key contributor to Auburn football in the coming years.
