Vikings Sign Veteran CB to Practice Squad
The Minnesota Vikings have bolstered their depth at cornerback by signing veteran Kelvin Joseph to their practice squad. This move comes as uncertainty looms over Stephon Gilmore’s availability for Sunday’s game against Atlanta.
Kelvin Joseph’s NFL Journey
Joseph, a second-round pick (#44 overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Kentucky, began his career with the Dallas Cowboys. After two seasons in Dallas, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2023 season. Following a brief stint in Miami, he moved to the Seattle Seahawks to finish the year. In 2024, Joseph signed a futures contract with the Kansas City Chiefs but was waived at the end of training camp. Since then, he has had multiple practice squad stints with the Indianapolis Colts before becoming a free agent.
In his four NFL seasons, Joseph has played in 33 games, including three starts. While he has yet to record an interception, he has one fumble recovery and has contributed on special teams. If promoted to the active roster, Joseph could bring additional experience to the secondary and play a key role on special teams.
Other Roster Moves
The Vikings also released long snapper Jake McQuaide, signaling that Andrew DePaola is expected to return for Sunday’s game. Additionally, running back Myles Gaskin was waived from the practice squad for the sixth time in two seasons.
Looking Ahead
The Vikings are set to release their first injury reports later today as they ramp up preparations for their matchup against Atlanta. Joseph’s signing provides insurance for the secondary, ensuring added depth if needed for this weekend’s game.
