Seahawks Release Former First-Round Pick Amid Roster Changes
The Seattle Seahawks are shaking up their roster as they aim to solidify their position atop the NFC West. Following a dramatic comeback victory against the New York Jets, Seattle made several notable moves. Trailing 28-7 in the second quarter, Leonard Williams ignited a turnaround with a stunning 92-yard pick-six, sparking 19 unanswered points that secured a 26-21 win.
Post-victory, the Seahawks released former first-round pick N’Keal Harry while signing defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna and offensive lineman Mike Novitsky to the practice squad. Harry, originally selected 32nd overall by the New England Patriots in the 2019 draft, was a rare first-round wide receiver pick for the franchise. During his three seasons with the Patriots, Harry managed 57 receptions, 598 yards, and four touchdowns across 33 games.
Traded to the Chicago Bears for a seventh-round pick in 2022, Harry’s progress was hindered by injuries, limiting him to seven games with seven catches for 116 yards and one touchdown. After an unremarkable stint with the Bears, Harry joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 but was waived after failing to secure a role. Re-signed to the Vikings’ practice squad, he briefly transitioned to tight end before being released in October. Harry joined Seattle’s practice squad in November but didn’t make it to the active roster. He hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2022.
In another move, Seattle cut kickoff return specialist Laviska Shenault Jr. after Week 13. Shenault’s second fumble of the season contributed to a poor special teams showing, which included a 99-yard kickoff return touchdown, a blocked extra point, and multiple fumbles. Despite his release, Shenault’s prior performance, such as a 97-yard return touchdown in Week 6, could attract interest from other teams.
With the win over the Jets, the Seahawks hold a one-game lead over the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West and will face them in a key divisional game in Week 14.
