Signing Day Recap: Christian Ingram Chooses South Carolina Over USC
South Carolina has secured a significant commitment from Georgia defensive lineman Christian Ingram, beating out USC and other suitors. The three-star Conyers (Ga.) Newton prospect signed with the Gamecocks during the early signing period, choosing them over a final three of Kentucky and USC.
Ingram’s Recruitment Journey
USC had shown interest in Ingram for some time but delayed extending an offer until late 2024. Defensive line coach Eric Henderson made a push in the fall, trying to catch up with a competitive recruitment field that included Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina.
USC worked hard to secure an official visit despite Ingram’s packed schedule. Initially, it seemed unlikely, but the Trojans managed to replace Vanderbilt on his final visit weekend, hosting him during the Notre Dame game. The visit left a strong impression on Ingram.
“The visit was amazing,” Ingram said at the time. “The NFL experience the coaches bring and the opportunities available with a degree from this school stood out. The exposure and expertise of the staff really impressed me.”
Despite USC’s efforts, including their appeal to Ingram’s NFL aspirations, South Carolina ultimately won the battle for his signature.
Ingram’s Profile
Standing at 6-foot-6 and 290 pounds, Ingram is ranked No. 451 overall and the No. 48 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite. A versatile player, his senior year stats are currently unavailable, but his film shows promise, particularly as a nose tackle.
Why Ingram Was Key for USC
USC had hoped to bolster its defensive line depth with Ingram. His size and potential versatility—playing either on the interior or the edge—made him an attractive prospect. The Trojans, thin at nose tackle, saw Ingram as a potential immediate depth piece, though a redshirt season for development seemed likely.
With several interior defensive linemen departing, USC will now need to rely on transfer portal additions to supplement its freshman class. Missing out on Ingram amplifies the urgency for reinforcements.
