Golden State Select from Indiana Fever in Expansion Draft
Temi Fagbenle is set to join the Golden State Valkyries after being selected from the Indiana Fever during the WNBA expansion draft on Friday night. The move makes Fagbenle part of the Valkyries’ inaugural roster as the team prepares for its first season.
Fagbenle, 32, returned to the WNBA in 2024 after spending several years playing in her home country of Great Britain. Despite limited playing time due to three separate injuries, she served as a veteran presence for the Fever, appearing in 22 games.
When healthy, Fagbenle showcased her versatility and skill as a forward. She developed strong on-court chemistry with Fever rookie Caitlin Clark, often capitalizing on Clark’s trademark full-court passes.
Her ability to adapt and contribute made her a valuable asset for Indiana during her limited action.
Heading into the offseason, Fagbenle was set to become a restricted free agent. By selecting her, the Valkyries inherit those rights, giving them the ability to match any contract offer she might receive in free agency. This ensures Golden State has the opportunity to retain her as they build their roster for the upcoming season.
Fagbenle’s leadership and experience will be key for the Valkyries as they establish themselves in the WNBA. Her addition marks an important step in shaping a competitive team for Golden State’s debut campaign.
