Former Los Angeles Angels reliever Kolton Ingram has joined the Atlanta Braves on a minor league contract, adding another chapter to his eventful 2024. Ingram, a left-handed pitcher, has been part of seven organizations this year, navigating a challenging path to solidify his professional career.

Ingram started 2024 with the Angels, who designated him for assignment in January. The Detroit Tigers claimed him off waivers in February but released him just two weeks later. He was then picked up by the New York Mets, who also designated him for assignment in April after a short stint in their Triple-A system, where he struggled with a 7.20 ERA across four appearances.

The Texas Rangers claimed Ingram next, but his tenure was brief as he was designated for assignment after two Triple-A outings. He then joined the St. Louis Cardinals, where he posted a 3.93 ERA and secured three saves in Triple-A.

However, the Cardinals also designated him for assignment by late June. Shortly after, the San Francisco Giants claimed him, and Ingram found some stability, recording a 3.08 ERA in 25 appearances with Triple-A Sacramento.

Following the 2024 season, Ingram became a free agent and signed with the Braves. Known for their strong player development system, the Braves could help Ingram refine his skills and aim for a return to the majors.

Ingram’s journey began as a 37th-round pick by the Detroit Tigers in 2019. After being released in 2020, he signed with the Angels in 2021 and made significant strides, earning a spot on their 40-man roster before the 2023 season. In his first Triple-A season, he recorded a 3.21 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 22 appearances. He also made his MLB debut in June 2023, pitching 5.1 innings across five games with an 8.44 ERA and seven strikeouts.

Despite the setbacks, Ingram’s perseverance and potential make him a notable addition to Atlanta’s organization. The Braves’ emphasis on developing pitching talent might provide the platform he needs to secure a more stable MLB role in the future.
