Yankees Predicted to Sign $60 Million Slugger After Cody Bellinger Trade
The New York Yankees made a major offseason move by trading with the Chicago Cubs to acquire outfielder Cody Bellinger on Tuesday night. Bellinger is expected to step into the lineup as the team’s center fielder. Following this significant addition, speculation has grown about the Yankees’ next move.
Chris Landers of FanSided recently shared a potential “dream lineup” for Yankees manager Aaron Boone and highlighted one particular target: Arizona Diamondbacks free agent first baseman Christian Walker. According to Landers, Walker is an ideal choice for the Yankees’ needs this offseason.
“Walker still makes the most sense here,” Landers stated. “He’s a consistent hitter and would provide a defensive boost that the Yankees should prioritize after the outcome of the most recent World Series. At 33 years old, Walker is likely a more affordable option compared to others, like Anthony Santander, who would need to adjust to a new position.”
While other big names like Pete Alonso and Paul Goldschmidt have been linked to the Yankees, Landers argued that Alonso’s expected contract demands and the minimal impact of Goldschmidt or Carlos Santana make Walker the standout option. Walker offers an affordable yet productive presence at first base, combining elite defense with offensive potential, including an OPS around .800 and notable power.
Adding Walker would round out the Yankees’ roster and create a lineup with surprising depth heading into 2025. While other candidates have been mentioned, none align with the Yankees’ aspirations quite like Walker.
The Yankees’ acquisition of Walker would be a pivotal move in their quest to build a championship-caliber team.
