BATON ROUGE – Highly-touted quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. has officially signed with LSU and will join the Tigers for the 2025 season. The former Mississippi State standout brings a promising skill set and impressive credentials to Baton Rouge.
Van Buren recently completed his freshman season at Mississippi State, where he emerged as the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback over the final eight games. In his debut season, the talented signal-caller appeared in 10 games, completing 140-of-256 passes for 1,886 yards and 11 touchdowns. Adding to his versatility, he also scored five rushing touchdowns.
The young quarterback’s standout performance came against Georgia, where he threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns, earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors. This game marked the start of an impressive three-game stretch during which Van Buren threw for eight touchdowns.
He followed up his Georgia performance with 242 passing yards and three touchdowns against Texas A&M and a career-high 309 passing yards with two scores against Arkansas.
Van Buren capped his freshman campaign with a strong showing in the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss, tallying 280 passing yards and two touchdowns—one through the air and one on the ground.
Before his collegiate career, Van Buren was a four-star recruit out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He played a pivotal role in leading his high school team to back-to-back national Top 10 finishes in 2021 and 2022. He chose Mississippi State over other powerhouse programs like Oregon, further highlighting his talent and potential.
