DONE DEAL: Just In Nick Caserio Officially Announced The Signing Of Another WR To Boost Squad

Joins Houston Texans After Release from Ravens

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson is set to start fresh with the Houston Texans following a challenging stint with the Baltimore Ravens. A former third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Johnson began his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and has also played for the Carolina Panthers.

The 2024 season has been tumultuous for Johnson, as he now joins his fourth team in just one year. After entering the offseason on an expiring contract with the Steelers, he was traded to the Panthers in exchange for cornerback Donte Jackson. Carolina hoped Johnson could complement Bryce Young, the 2023 first-overall pick, and during seven games, Johnson recorded 30 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns. However, the Panthers decided to part ways with him, trading him to the Ravens at the midseason deadline.

Johnson’s time in Baltimore was far from successful. Brought in as a depth option, he managed just one reception for six yards in four games. His tenure reached a breaking point during a Week 13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles when he reportedly refused to enter the game. Following a one-game suspension, the Ravens released him, choosing to move forward without him.

Despite recent struggles, Johnson has a proven track record from his time with the Steelers. He delivered three consecutive seasons with at least 880 receiving yards, including a standout 1,162-yard campaign in 2021 that earned him a Pro Bowl nod. Over 88 career games (75 starts), Johnson has amassed 422 receptions for 4,726 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Now with the Texans, Johnson has an opportunity to reclaim his form and contribute to a team seeking to enhance its offense. His veteran experience and past production make him a potential asset for Houston as they prepare for the remainder of the 2024 season.
