Clemson Running Back  Bids Farewell to Fans

Senior running back Phil Mafah has officially said goodbye to Clemson fans, expressing his gratitude through an emotional social media post. After four impactful seasons, Mafah thanked the Clemson community, his family, teammates, and the coaching staff for their support and influence on his journey.

“My time at Clemson has helped shape me into the man I am today and will help me for years to come,” Mafah wrote, also extending heartfelt thanks to fans for their unwavering support. He announced his plans to focus on preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft, where early projections have him as a potential fifth-round pick.

A former four-star recruit from Loganville, Georgia, Mafah was a top-200 player nationally in the class of 2021. Injuries during his freshman year opened the door for him to contribute early, as he rushed for 292 yards and three touchdowns in nine games.

By his sophomore season, Mafah became a key offensive player, rushing for 515 yards and four touchdowns across 14 games. In 2023, he had a breakout year, amassing 965 rushing yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns while averaging 5.4 yards per carry. That season, he and teammate Will Shipley became Clemson’s first running back duo since 2007 to surpass 800 rushing yards each in a single season, joining a select group of teammates in program history.

In 2024, Mafah emerged as Clemson’s primary running back, despite battling a shoulder injury in the second half of the season. He finished with 1,115 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, earning third-team All-ACC honors.

Beyond his on-field performance, Mafah was a respected leader in the locker room, leaving behind a legacy of toughness and dedication. Clemson fans will remember him fondly and wish him success as he embarks on his NFL journey.
