Breaking: Mets Legend Urged Mets To dump Pete Alonso and trade for $400 million superstar

Mets Encouraged to Trade Pete Alonso for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The New York Mets made a major splash this offseason by signing Juan Soto, positioning themselves as strong contenders for a World Series title. However, their next big decision revolves around the future of star first baseman Pete Alonso. Should they commit to Alonso or explore an alternative option at first base?

Jake Brown, speaking during a Bleacher Report livestream, suggested the Mets move on from Alonso and instead pursue Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Brown argued that if the Mets are prepared to invest heavily, Guerrero offers more value than Alonso.

“I want the best player who can get you a championship,” Brown said. “Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is significantly better than Pete Alonso and is also four years younger. It’s going to cost $400 million, likely a 10-year deal starting at that figure next winter, but why not trust Steve Cohen to make it happen? Cohen just gave out the biggest deal in sports history.”

While Alonso remains a fan favorite and has spent his entire career with the Mets, the lack of a long-term contract extension raises questions about his future. The market for first basemen has narrowed, leaving the Mets as Alonso’s most probable landing spot. However, the prospect of pairing Guerrero with Soto could be too tempting for the Mets to ignore.

Guerrero brings a versatile offensive game, combining power with consistency at the plate. Last season, he hit .323 with 30 home runs, making him an elite offensive asset. Set to become a free agent next year, Guerrero has already indicated that contract talks with the Blue Jays have stalled. If Toronto fears losing him for nothing, they could explore a trade.

Guerrero has expressed willingness to negotiate an extension before Spring Training, which aligns with the Mets’ aggressive approach to securing top talent. Acquiring him through a trade would not only strengthen their lineup but also give the team a chance to sign him to a long-term deal before he hits free agency.

With Guerrero’s youth, skill, and marketability, the Mets face a compelling decision: stick with Alonso or make a bold move for a potential $400 million superstar.
