The free agency market for wide receivers is filled with experienced veterans, many of whom may have already passed their peak performance. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, this could mean targeting younger players or those with existing ties to the team. Meanwhile, the trade market is shaping up to be promising, with names like Cooper Kupp and Deebo Samuel already available.
A new veteran potentially on the move is Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett. The Seahawks are still deciding on his future, but after nearly a decade with the team, the 32-year-old could be on his way out.
“We’re working through that right now,” said Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald. “But those decisions will likely be made in the next month or two.”
Lockett is set to receive a $5.3 million roster bonus on March 17, meaning a decision will need to come before then. His salary for the upcoming season is close to $17 million, but since none of it is guaranteed, Seattle could release him without significant financial consequences.
The Seahawks might explore trade options for Lockett or simply cut him. This past season, he recorded 49 receptions for 600 yards over 17 games, his lowest output since 2017. While signs suggest he may be declining, if the Steelers decide to bring back Russell Wilson, they might consider reuniting him with one of his most reliable targets.
