GOOD NEWS: Former Pro Bowl QB Says He Want To Play For Detroit Lions

There is growing speculation about Matthew Stafford’s future with the Los Angeles Rams as the veteran quarterback has expressed a desire to continue playing in 2025, but an extension with the Rams remains uncertain. NFL analyst Colin Cowherd recently shared insights into the situation, suggesting that Los Angeles’ front office is growing frustrated with ongoing discussions about Stafford’s contract and comments made by his wife, Kelly, on her podcast.

Cowherd proposed a bold trade scenario, sending Stafford to the New York Giants and Aaron Rodgers to the Rams. He claimed that the Rams appreciate Stafford but are weary of the off-field noise, particularly criticism from his wife regarding team decisions like potentially parting ways with wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Cowherd suggested the Rams are hesitant to restructure Stafford’s contract and may be ready to move on.

Regarding the Giants, Cowherd argued that their leadership—head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen—are under pressure to win immediately and might target Stafford to solidify their quarterback situation. He believes New York could make a strong push to acquire him.

Kelly Stafford fueled speculation by discussing Kupp’s situation on her podcast, hinting that her husband wants to play for a competitive team. She also acknowledged her openness to a change, further igniting trade rumors.

Stafford’s current deal includes a substantial $49.6 million cap hit in 2025. The Rams could save $27 million by trading him after June 1 or $23 million before that date, making a trade financially appealing. With uncertainty surrounding his future in Los Angeles, the possibility of Stafford heading to another team, such as the Giants, remains a topic of discussion.
