Ronald Acuña Jr. is nearing full recovery just in time for the 2025 season after suffering a major setback last May. The Atlanta Braves’ star outfielder, who won the 2023 National League MVP award, provided a positive update on his rehabilitation from a torn ACL, stating that his left knee is now about 90-95% healed.
Acuña sustained the injury on May 26, 2024, during a stolen-base attempt against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He underwent surgery on June 4, performed by renowned Los Angeles Dodgers team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache. This marked the beginning of a lengthy recovery process, one that Acuña is familiar with, having torn his right ACL in 2021 and missing the Braves’ World Series triumph. However, he feels more stable this time around, noting, “Compared to my previous experience, I would feel more stable. I’m just working to get it all back to where I know it can be.”
With the Braves setting their sights on another championship run in 2025, the team is eager for Acuña’s return. General manager Alex Anthopoulos emphasized his importance, saying, “We think getting him back is going to be huge for us.” Acuña’s 2023 MVP season was remarkable, featuring a .337 batting average, 41 home runs, 106 RBIs, and a league-best 73 stolen bases. His full recovery could significantly boost Atlanta’s hopes of defending its NL East title and making another deep playoff push.
