Breaking News: Green Bay Packers Officially Announce the Signing of Veteran Guard Aaron Banks
The Green Bay Packers have officially confirmed the signing of veteran offensive lineman Aaron Banks. The former San Francisco 49ers guard joins the team on a four-year, $77 million deal, bringing experience and stability to Green Bay’s offensive line.
Banks, a 2021 second-round pick out of Notre Dame, started 43 of 44 games over the past three seasons with the 49ers. He is coming off his best season yet, posting a 91.7% pass-block win rate and a 69% run-block win rate in 2024.
With the departure of center Josh Myers, the addition of Banks allows Green Bay to adjust its lineup, with Pro Bowler Elgton Jenkins expected to move to center. The move strengthens the interior line as the Packers prepare for the 2025 season.
While the Green Bay Packers didn’t make major headline-grabbing moves on Monday, they did secure a key reinforcement for their offensive line by reportedly signing guard Aaron Banks to a four-year, $77 million contract.
Banks, a second-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, initially served as a backup before emerging as a reliable starter. Over the past three seasons, he started 43 of the 44 games he played for the Niners.
At 27, Banks is coming off his best season yet, posting a 91.7% pass-block win rate and a 69% run-block win rate in 2024. He also recorded a career-high Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 65.4. However, that ranking placed him just 50th among 135 eligible guards, raising some questions about whether Green Bay overpaid. Nevertheless, addressing the offensive line was a necessary move for the team.
Green Bay’s decision to add Banks aligns with their plans to reshape the offensive line, especially with center Josh Myers not expected to return. The addition of Banks allows the team to shuffle their current personnel to fill the vacant center position.
Some fans had speculated that right tackle Zach Tom might transition to center, as some within the organization believed he had Hall of Fame potential at the position. However, according to Packers beat reporter Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, two-time Pro Bowler Elgton Jenkins is expected to make the move from left guard to center instead.
The decision makes sense given Jenkins’ experience—he played center during his final two seasons at Mississippi State and has logged nearly 400 snaps at the position for the Packers.
As for 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan, his role remains uncertain. However, it appears that Green Bay’s 2025 season will begin with Banks, Jenkins, and Sean Rhyan anchoring the interior offensive line.
