Apprehensive News: Auburn Star Tahaad Pettiford Sends Two-Word Message To Alabama Transfer

Tahaad Pettiford proven to be one of the top rookies in college basketball during his debut season with the Auburn Tigers.

Yet, Auburn couldn’t get it done in the Final Four, falling to SEC foe Florida Gators 79-73 to conclude the Tigers’ NCAA Tournament season.

The Tigers will not have All-American senior Johni Broome, despite Pettiford’s desire to rejoin Auburn for the upcoming campaign. Although Auburn’s in-state rival, the Alabama Crimson Tide, has already made an early move in the portal, UCF transfer Keyshawn Hall may be able to cover the gap.

Jalil Bethea, a transfer from the Miami Hurricanes, declared his commitment to Alabama on Sunday. Alabama just finished their own run in the Elite Eight.
After his transfer decision, Pettiford, who played alongside Bethea at the high school Aces Elite Classic All-American Game, sent Bethea a two-word message.

“Come onnnn,” said Pettiford.

In the 2024 recruiting class, Pettiford and Bethea were both highly regarded prospects. Bethea was rated as a five-star prospect by 247Sports, while Pettiford was rated as a four-star prospect. Pettiford ranked as the 29th-best recruit in his class, while Bethea placed 7th.

Bethea played in 31 games during his one season with Miami, including 16 starts, although he struggled to establish a consistent rhythm. He averaged 2.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 7.1 points on 36.8% shooting.

With an average of 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists off the bench, Pettiford had a far more successful season. If Pettiford decides to return to Auburn for his second season, coach Bruce Pearl might decide to start him, barring a significant change.

Pettiford and Bethea may face off against one other in the future. And Bethea might take Mark Sears’ position for Alabama.
