Raiders Smitten With Star RB Prospect Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft
The Las Vegas Raiders appear to have removed themselves from the quarterback conversation for the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after acquiring veteran quarterback Geno Smith. With Smith set to lead the offense, the focus has shifted to two high-impact skill players: running back Ashton Jeanty and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
McMillan, a 6-foot-4 receiver known for his large catch radius and similarities to Drake London, would be an ideal complement to All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers. His presence would bolster the Raiders’ receiving corps and give them a true No. 1 target. However, recent signs suggest Las Vegas is leaning toward Jeanty instead.

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reports that there’s a growing belief around the league that both the Raiders’ front office and coaching staff are enamored with Jeanty. Many insiders believe he’s the likely choice at No. 6 overall, with one team executive even calling it a “foregone conclusion” that the Heisman runner-up will land in Vegas.
While Las Vegas could use a top-tier wide receiver, Jeanty is widely viewed as a top-three overall talent in this year’s draft. He’s fresh off one of the most dominant seasons ever by a college running back, racking up 2,601 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns, per ESPN. Scouts have compared him to elite backs like Saquon Barkley, and some believe he’s the best prospect at the position since Adrian Peterson.
In Chip Kelly’s offensive system, Jeanty would be the centerpiece, expected to immediately take on a featured role. With his explosiveness and all-around ability, Jeanty could earn Pro Bowl honors as a rookie and will likely be among the early frontrunners for the 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year. His presence would also open up opportunities for both Bowers and Smith in the Raiders’ retooled offense
