MLB Trade Rumors: Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox Among Top Destinations for Marlins Ace Sandy Alcantara
Even though it’s still early in the season, trade speculation around Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara is already heating up. ESPN’s David Schoenfield has identified four teams as the most probable landing spots: the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Texas Rangers.
The Marlins remain in rebuild mode, and Alcantara—a former Cy Young Award winner—could be a major addition for any contender. He’s not just a short-term rental either; he’s signed through 2026, with a club option for 2027, making him an appealing long-term asset.
Despite that, it appears increasingly likely that Miami will deal Alcantara sometime this year. Big-market teams like the Yankees and Red Sox are usual suspects in these kinds of rumors, while the Rangers’ interest comes as more of a surprise. Still, pairing Alcantara with Jacob deGrom could strengthen Texas’ rotation significantly.
Meanwhile, the Cubs may be one of the most intriguing fits. They’re currently leading the NL Central with a 14-10 record and are in need of a pitching boost, especially following the news that Justin Steele will miss the rest of the season. While Shota Imanaga has been solid and Matthew Boyd has exceeded expectations, adding a frontline starter like Alcantara could elevate Chicago to another level.
Of course, competition will be fierce, and more than just these four teams are expected to pursue Alcantara as the deadline approaches. But if the Cubs can assemble an attractive trade package, they could be serious contenders to land the Marlins’ star right-hander.
