Journalist Fabrizio Romano now claims that one of Newcastle United’s January targets will be available at the same price in the summer.
Newcastle were unable to make any major January signings due to a lack of cash, as was the case throughout the Premier League, although this might change in the summer.
Newcastle can still make affordable buys throughout the summer.
It seemed almost astonishing that nobody was able to sign Guirassy in January following his season with Stuttgart, but the striker elected to stay with the club.
So far this season, the 27-year-old has 17 goals in 14 Bundesliga games and 21 goal contributions in 16 games in all competitions, a really ‘exceptional’ performance.
That’s why it was so frustrating to learn that he was available for only £15 million, despite the fact that Newcastle didn’t even have enough money to pay that amount if he wanted to leave the club.
The aim is that there will be considerably more money to spend in six months, but with Champions League and Adidas money on the way, they may revisit this arrangement to locate a new attacker.
Newcastle’s assault requires a makeover.
Callum Wilson is expected to be sold in the summer due to ongoing injury concerns and with one year remaining on his current deal, so they’ll want to cash in while they can.
That would leave Alexander Isak, another player who has struggled with injuries over the previous 18 months, as the club’s only acknowledged striker, which is clearly insufficient.
Eddie Howe would want to have three attackers at his disposal, with two of them rotating and maybe a third, younger attacker who is content to be third choice and wait for his chance to play in the first team.
There is undoubtedly room for Guirassy to come in
