For the 2024 season, Oklahoma football added a very excellent tight end through the transfer portal.
In 2024, Oklahoma football will see significant changes. After years of accomplishments, the school is leaving the Big 12 league and joining the SEC. Every week, the Sooners will face fierce competition from the SEC, which is a bear. The Sooners need to make some significant transfers via the transfer site in order to contend and prevail. The Sooners accomplished exactly that, and one guy in particular will undoubtedly help them contend in their new league in 2024.
Head coach Brent Venables and Oklahoma football have a number of men that could be called sneaky nice signings in this transfer portal class, especially from their offensive line. However, one guy in particular for the Sooners truly went unnoticed. Bauer Sharp is a tight end who attended Southeastern Louisiana before to moving to Norman.
Despite attending an FCS school, Sharp is a 6-foot-6, 245-pound tight end with the build of a Division 1 tight end. During his time at Southeastern Louisiana, he was extremely successful. According to Sports Illustrated, he had 29 catches for 288 yards and three touchdowns at the end of the 2023 season.
To others, that would sound ordinary, but there’s more to this story. While at the school, Sharp also played quarterback in spurts, adding five more touchdowns and rushing for 133 extra yards in the previous campaign. According to Sports Illustrated, PFF ranked Sharp as the third-highest graded tight end in FCS football in 2023. Sharp’s versatility is something that Oklahoma football can and should utilize, especially when playing offense down near the goal line. Sharp is a tremendously dangerous weapon for the Sooners going forward because of his versatility.
Additionally, Sharp fills a tight end void that the Sooners sorely needed to cover. This summer, Oklahoma football lost two tight ends to the transfer portal. Jason Llewellyn and Blake Smith both left the team. At that point, Sharp has a direct chance to influence the Sooners.
The 2024 Oklahoma football season gets underway on August 31st, when it takes on Temple. The Sooners play Maine, Tulane, and Houston in non-conference games. On September 21, the program plays its debut game in the SEC Conference against Tennessee.
