The past several weeks have seen a lot of movement from Kyle Lowry.
The 37-year-old guard was recently traded by the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets, but it was thought that Charlotte will buy him out to allow him to sign with another team.
As it turned out, he spent the weekend inking a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Former NBA player Lou Williams disclosed on Monday’s “Run It Back” that he had just spoken with Lowry on the transfer.
“I discussed it with Kyle yesterday. “He was quite happy to be going home,” Williams remarked.
He said, “He had the chance to visit a few different teams, but he felt that this was the best fit for him.”
The six-time All-Star Lowry was drawn to the prospect of playing in his native Philadelphia.
The idea of handling the ball for a team this competitive, which is expected to make the playoffs this year, attracted him as well.
Although Lowry played for the Heat for the past several seasons, his time there didn’t quite turn out the way he had intended.
During that time, he scored 11.4 points, pulled down 4.1 rebounds, and disheveled 5.8 assists, not quite the stats the Heat and its supporters had been hoping for following his lengthy tenure with the Toronto Raptors.
With the 76ers, Lowry is hoping to establish himself once more.
Lowry is a subject of many inquiries, particularly given his advanced age.
Some believe that he has passed his prime and has nothing more to offer the club.
However, the Sixers might make good use of his basketball acumen and experience, seeing him as the kind of facilitator who could greatly assist other players on the team.
