Breaking News: Michigan football had avoided losing any key players to the transfer portal what's done is done. Lamar Morgan, the Louisiana defensive coordinator

In this collection of Michigan Wolverines news, we have more on the coaching staff in addition to Michigan football’s first significant loss to the transfer portal.

Prior to Friday morning, Michigan football had not lost any significant players to the transfer portal. However, that changed when former top-100 safety Keon Sabb declared that he would be leaving the Michigan Wolverines in order to use the portal.

This past season, Sabb had 28 tackles and two interceptions for the Michigan football team. In the national championship game, he additionally had a crucial pass breakup.

Michigan Wolverines news: A key transfer portal departure, plus staff shakeup

Although Sabb wasn’t officially a starter for the Michigan Wolverines at safety, he was expected to play a more significant part this season and may have played a lot of snaps in a huge nickel role. I was expecting to see that, but Sabb is going to pursue other opportunities with his abilities.

This emphasizes even further how Michigan football has to bolster its secondary by adding some quality through the transfer portal. Rod Moore and Makari Paige are back, so safety isn’t an urgent necessity, but the Wolverines still need a No. 2 corner and someone who can play in the slot.

The Michigan Wolverines’ coaching staff is reorganized.

Stephen Adegoke, the coach of the Houston Texas safeties, was reportedly hired by Michigan football on Wednesday to serve as the team’s secondary coach, replacing Steve Clinkscale.

But according to Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider, Adegoke will remain in the NFL rather than play for the Michigan Wolverines because of the heavy push from Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans to stay.

Adegoke is a budding talent in football, so this is a setback for Michigan. It would have been well-liked by the secondary players because he was a graduate assistant on the Michigan Wolverines coaching staff in 2021.

But done is done, I suppose. The defensive coordinator for Louisiana, Lamar Morgan, interviewed for the position as well. I still think he would be a great match for the Wolverines, as I stated earlier this week. He was a play-caller at Vanderbilt and worked for Jesse Minter.

Sherrone Moore could not have made a mistake in my opinion. The revelation that Adegoke will remain in the NFL raises questions about whether Sabb’s exit had anything to do with Adegoke’s connections to the players, which may have been the decisive factor.
