While one of their former attackers just signed a contract with another team, Newcastle United is currently in need of a striker.

Newcastle's Emil Krafth reacts after transfer news which broke on Monday night

Due to injuries to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon is now required to play as a striker for the Magpies. Harvey Barnes even played across the center for a little period of time on Saturday against Bournemouth.

When asked on Friday if he would consider signing a free agent, Eddie Howe said he had few alternatives.

Dwight Gayle, who joined Stoke City in July 2022 after leaving Newcastle United, was one of their choices. He agreed to a two-year contract with the Potters, but earlier this month, that agreement was terminated.

Gayle’s Stoke contract was canceled as he approached its last few months.

The 34-year-old has been a free agent for the past few weeks, but he has finally signed with a new team.

The news that Gayle has committed to a contract with League One team Derby County till the end of the season was released on Monday.

He expressed his happiness at finding a new squad on his official Instagram account after the news.

“Excited to join Derby County for the remainder of the season,” he stated in his letter.

A few of Gayle’s old Newcastle United colleagues responded to his message.

Emil Krafth said, “Bro, all the best.”

Then Isaac Hayden said, “Let’s go.”
Gayle is hoping that this might be a new beginning for him, since he has had a lot of difficulties lately.

Since his Championship loan stint with West Brom in the 2018–19 campaign, he has not had a very successful season. In that year, he scored twenty-four goals.

Gayle’s level has always seemed to be the Championship, so moving from Newcastle to Stoke felt perfect. But in 1.5 years with red and white, he managed just 3 goals in all competitions.

He’s now in League One, a category Gayle has never really played in. I hope that at 34, he succeeds.
