All Teams For Georgia, What does the new 12 team format mean for Georgia Football?

College and Georgia football are evolving. College football is searching for a new playoff structure, while Georgia is coping with coaching and player change. Georgia will overcome its obstacles just fine; college football’s future may not be bright.

The 12-team playoff will follow a 5+7 format, it was confirmed today. This is the fancy press release describing the new playoff structure.

Wonderful! Our issues have been resolved, and our new 12-team playoff structure will make things right at last! I’m joking, however. The new playoff has a number of issues, which has made things worse. Recall how you felt on Sunday morning when Georgia was eliminated from the playoffs following their narrow three-point loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship game. Prepare yourself for that sensation once more.

College Football Playoff: What would the 12-team expanded field look like this week? - The Athletic

Thus, nothing was resolved. The issues with the current 5+7 structure of the 12-team playoff that we encountered with the previous 6+6 format still persist. The Big Ten and SEC clubs have no need to compete in conference finals. Why? because compared to the ACC or Big 12, those two leagues’ schedules are far more competitive. It’s ridiculous that the top-ranked conference champions would receive automatic invitations! I promise that the club that finishes fourth in the SEC will be superior to either the ACC or the Big 12 champion.

Look no farther than last year’s championship to support the idea that conference titles will have little bearing in the 12-team playoff system. When both teams will go to the playoffs and some other team, like Penn State, is sleeping and watching these two enormous opponents destroy each other, why would Alabama or Georgia even want to play the game?

To be honest, I wish we could go back to the BCS era because everything about it is faulty. It everything appeared so much simpler and less complicated then than it is now. Don’t fall for the ESPN scam either. They are deceiving us all by claiming that it would make college football better. Who gains from the playoffs, do you know? ESPN! Why? as they are the only network with the ability to show the playoffs!

Georgia won’t likely be impacted by this in the near future, and to be honest, by July, this system might not even be in place. However, we Georgia supporters may soon find ourselves on the short end of the stick if it does remain.

I may be the old guy screaming at the skies, but nothing has changed, and all I want is for the regular season of college football to continue to matter. The regular season of college football is the only sport that counts so much, yet it is now suffering with every new “improvement.” Bowl games that aren’t in the playoffs also do that.

I’m hoping that someone who can think clearly will enter the room and resolve everything. We’re looking at an NFL lite till then.
