Breaking News :Rebels pitching staff racks up 15 strikeouts as Memphis hit a terrible work out but Memphis struggled to capitalize on any momentum

WMC – Memphis, Tennessee On Wednesday, the Memphis Tigers suffered a 5-3 loss to Ole Miss in their first of two season games.

Ole Miss, who is presently on a three-game winning streak, improves to 9-5 while Memphis falls to 7-7 on the season with the loss.

In the first inning, Memphis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Pierre Seals and Daunte Stuart both scored runs with singles to center field.

Reagan Burford’s single home run in the following inning gave the Rebels a chance to tie the game.

Riley Maddox, the Rebels’ starting pitcher, would then contain the Tigers lineup. For his first victory of the year, Maddox worked five innings, giving up two runs on six hits, a walk, and a strikeout.

Ethan Groff’s first-inning home run put the Rebels ahead 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Ole Miss led 4-2 after Ethan Lege hit a two-run home run later in the inning.

Despite two hits in the fifth inning, Maddox shut down any potential Tigers production, as Memphis was unable to build any momentum.

Jackson Ross doubled in the sixth inning to give Ole Miss a 5-2 lead and drive in a run.

The Tigers had only managed one hit since the fifth inning, but Jake Curtis’s run scored on a passed ball in the eighth inning brought the score to 5-3.

The Ole Miss bullpen shut down the Tigers’ offensive line and sealed the victory.

Starting for Memphis, Cade Davis threw two and a third innings, giving up four runs on five hits, including two home runs, three walks, and one strikeout. This was his third loss of the season.

“We just struggled to generate offense the rest of the game, but I think we did a good job getting to their starter early.” The good thing about tonight, according to Tigers manager Matt Riser, was how well we pitched out of the bullpen.

Ole Miss will be eager to play Morehead State on Friday night. On SEC Network+, the first pitch begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Tigers return home to get ready for their opening Grind City Classic matchup with Butler. It’s the first pitch at five o’clock.
