Phillips erupts as he gets on the team bus.
Amidst fire After West Ham’s loss against Newcastle, Kalvin Phillips, a midfielder for the team, was caught on camera cursing at the supporters.
After coming on as Michail Antonio’s replacement in the 67th minute, Phillips had an agonizing game at St. James Park. Not only did the midfielder for Manchester City, who is on loan, give up a penalty soon after coming in. However, Harvey Barnes’ long-range effort for Newcastle’s fourth goal was similarly easily dribbled past him.
After the game, Hammers supporters had congregated beside the squad bus, maybe to express their annoyance or to acquire selfies, signatures, and shirts. Phillips seemed to be the target of several requests for his shirt as he made his way to the bus, along with a suggestion that he might want to go back to Manchester.
After that, the midfield player gave the supporters the finger as he got on the bus. The West Ham Network produced the video, which has gone viral on social media even though it isn’t visible on their X feed.
I’ve made an effort to be forgiving of Phillips, but cursing at supporters is never appropriate, especially in front of kids. It’s obvious that his awful time at West Ham is weighing heavily on him, and it will be intriguing to see how the team reacts.
