Nottingham Forest man Jonjo Shelvey was surprisingly linked with a move to Leeds earlier this week and now, Ben Parker has told LS11 he would take the midfielder at Elland Road – labelling him “unbelievable”.
Shelvey, 31, only joined Forest from Newcastle in January 2023. He has played just eight times since his arrival, and TeamTalk report that he has fallen out with manager Steven Cooper. It would make sense.
Indeed, the six-time England man has been absent from Forest’s squad for their opening League games against Sheffield United and Arsenal. His recently-signed deal at Forest lasts until the summer of 2025.
Asked about the reports linking Leeds with a move for Shelvey, ex-Whites star Parker said he would take Shelvey at Elland Road – largely because he plays well against Leeds. But also, because of his passing.
“Take him. At least he won’t score against us, he always seem to score or play well. Ability wise, you can see playing out from the back. He sprays passes, he’s unbelievable,” Parker said on the LS11 podcast.
Shelvey linked with Leeds: Parker would take him at Elland Road
Leeds need midfielders. The chances are, the club are going to bring in Glen Kamara from Rangers and maybe, Shelvey’s teammate Lewis O’Brien. The latter has been linked with Leeds for a number of years.
But if moves fail for Finland star Kamara, and long-term target O’Brien, then it might be that we turn to the possible capture of Shelvey. He is likely to be available and a loan deal would be easy to secure.
Leeds fans would be divided when it comes to the signing of Shelvey. But there is no doubt, he has the ability to shine in our midfield. Experienced, and has won the Championship before. A solid signing.
